【Online Seminar】Olympic-related Sport Arbitration

2022.01.18

Following the Tokyo Summer Olympic Games in summer 2021, the Beijing Winter Olympic Games in February 2022 are quickly approaching. The news coverage about the selection of athletes for the Olympics has been increasing. While some athletes are delighted to be selected, other athletes are not selected to their disappointment. There may be athletes who want to file a complaint against the selection result. Although sports arbitration is one of the realistic options in such cases, athletes and relevant people are not likely to have sufficient knowledge of the sports arbitration process.
It is important for a company supporting Olympic athletes to have a basic understanding of sports arbitration and available options for the athletes because the company and its athletes might face sports disputes from unexpected situations, for example, an obvious misjudgment by a referee during a game or an unfair athlete selection process. Such dispute should be resolved in an urgent manner to secure the athlete's rights and vested interest.
Through this seminar, we would like to offer some basic knowledge about sports dispute resolution. Additionally, based on lecturer's professional experience of being a legal counsel for a foreign athlete at the CAS Ad Hoc Division of the Tokyo Olympic Games, we will provide several examples and cases to the audience.

We look forward to your applications.
